Announcing Vyew 4.0 beta

Important: The purpose of the beta release is to let a portion of our users test our new UI and give us feedback. Please read the section below about what is missing. The product itself is not yet ready for mass public use.
Update September 7, 2010: Beta v4.05 Released

We apologize for the lack of status updates. We are working hard and are excited that Vyew 4.0 is almost here! Today we have released another beta version which has many bug fixes. Although it is not 100% ready, all I can say is we are very close. Stay tuned!

The Vyew team has been working hard on a new version we are very proud of. We’re still working out the final kinks, but we have something thats ready to be used.

.

Vyew 4.0 beta Interface

What’s new in the final Vyew 4.0 release?

It’s been rebuilt from the ground up in the latest Flash Flex4 technology which means…

  • The interface is more responsive, faster, and more stable.
  • Loading times* will be faster.
  • Simpler, easier to use interface.
  • Secure – We’ve added more security to keep your content safe.
  • Searching – Search for content within your rooms.
  • Unified Invites – Scheduling meetings and open-ended invites can be managed in one place.
  • Notifications* – Get notified when certain rooms are modified, or people leave you comments.

* This feature not ready yet, but will be.

Note: Vyew Rooms have been renamed to “Rooms.” We’ve dropped the term Vyew Room, because it didn’t seem as intuitive as a generic name like “room.” So from now, we’ll be referring to Vyew Rooms as Vyew Rooms.

But wait there’s more!

With our new technology platform we’re able to do more things. Right around the corner from the 4.0 release will be…

  • Export to PDF/Print - Yea, we know, our current print function isn’t very great. This one will rock.
  • New Page Navigator with page thumbnails.
  • Email in/out of Vyew – Send an attachment to your Vyew room, and it’ll get imported immediately.
  • Encrypted Meetings – Business customers can rest assured with fully encrypted meeting room.

What’s missing in the BETA release?

  • There are many little final touches in the interface that are not done.
  • Most of the “plugins” are not available, such as graphing calculator, dynamic button, video player, etc.
  • You cannot upload interactive SWF files.
  • The text tool is lacking many of the final features.
  • No foreign language support.
  • No naming and arranging pages in the room yet.
  • No multi-select tool.

We are dedicated to your collaboration experience

In the coming months we’ll be listening even more closely to our users and continuously testing and refining our interface. We are committed to building the easiest to use, and most capable collaboration platform on the market. We apologize if any of you felt ignored in the last six months, but now you’ll know why — Vyew 4.0 has a lot of bug fixes since our last version.

How do I use Vyew 4.0?

Sorry, we’ve been working all weekend to get this launched, but the 4.0 beta is still not ready. We hit some complications. We hope to get this out by monday/tuesday.

I apologize for the problem. We ran into some complications with our login system for the beta. We are working out the problems and hope to have it out soon. I’ll email you when its ready.

    it works fine now :)
the only thing i don’t like about it is that there is no way to close the side pods for everyone (that I have figured out yet)

    Vyew

We’ll put that in by the final release. I’ll make sure its on the list.

4.0 looks good, what I like:
    1) auto hide function for the drawing tools.
    2) new text box. (previously changing font size was not easier.)
    3) Larger Icons on the top
    4) Import screen captured image
    May need improvements:
    1) I cannot find the logout button.
    2) cropping feature GUI for screen capture
    3) Full screen button for participating users. Bigger icons occupy large space.
    4) Bigger, more noticeable magnification tools
    5) Graphic presentation of participants when they come into the lobby.

    Thanks for the feedback.
Logout is in the Main Menu. We’ll talk about this problem with the team.

FYI, the new bigger buttons actually take up no more space than in the old version. This is due to us removing / reorganizing the controls at the top. The vertical space used up is exactly the same.

If you want full-screen mode, you can use the full-screen mode provided by your browser. Under the ‘View’ menu bar at the very top, should be an item labeled ‘Full Screen’ or similar.

Soon I’ll be subscribing. Already tested the page, but miss that the animation is a powerpoint presentation.

Maybe not something I can set?

    Reply

    Vyew

No, at this time, Vyew does not import the animations (transitions) between powerpoint slides.

Would like the ability to increase the size of the presenter’s video window. It’s a little small in the current configuration.

    Reply

    Vyew

Yea we will in some later revisions, just trying to get the main stuff done right now.

    Reply

    David R

You can easily increase the size by hand by dragging the vertical bar separating it to the left. You can even close the chat and userlist windows to give it more room, by clicking their respective icons at the bottom right.

how difficult would it be for the vyew room to be compatible with mobile browser softwares. At the moment, with a skyfire browser, it is possible to enter the vyew rooms but you cannot activate any of the options, apart from browse through a few pages.

Also, how difficult would it be to have the option of using a cobranded welcome screen where you enter your guest name. This would be particularly useful for corporate users like us.

When will Vyew have remote application control? IMHO, this is the last component missing to make Vyew a true competitor to GoToMeeting and WebEx.

    Reply

    Vyew

Remote control is on our roadmap, but quite far off. It is not a highly requested feature but we would like to get it in.

    Reply

    Kina

Interactive remote control would be an EXCELLENT feature to incorporate in this product. You don’t have to deal with firewall issues and can assist a remote user either by observing or controlling their screen. This would be facilitate training and troubleshooting technical problems. IT professionals would scramble for this.

    Vyew

I hear you…. but if we try to pack too much into this product we wont be good at anything! :) Were still focusing on getting our core product exactly right…. then we’ll see. thanks for the comments.

  7. Brian says:

Love the new interface! We evaluated Vyew awhile back and decided to use GoToMeeting instead, but this new version is very slick and pulling us back to Vyew again. We did get some feedback from a participant in a session with this beta recently, and I wanted to pass it along for your development team’s consideration – here it is:

“Just thought I’d report that I’m having some difficulty with the chat screen during our workshop. The window is small (top to bottom) and I’m not able to change that dimension, and then the little slide bar isn’t very accurate, at least as I’m using my touch pad. So I end up scrolling past many of the comments, and spending a lot of time trying to get the alignment right to read the next comment. Just thought I’d see if you have any control over how the screen is laid out, and whether this box could be enlarged from your end. Separate up-down arrows would probably help a lot, but I understand you might not be able to control that. One other item is the Alerts that flash on the screen frequently showing people have left and/or joined the conference. Can these be turned off? They probably aren’t accurate, anyway, and they’re pretty distracting.”

I’ll echo her point about the alerts – they are painful! Hope you guys continue to tweak and refine this version – it looks really promising.

    Vyew

Thanks. We can add an alert control.

How can I use any custom font? The text pad tool has the ability to set some other fonts but is there a way I can add a custom font to that list?

    Thanks.

    Reply

    Vyew

You can only use the built-in fonts in the text pad which is Arial, Verdana, Times New Roman, and Trebuchet”.

Does the system have conference call bidirectional in the same time.

    Reply

    Vyew

Yes. Well there are 2 systems. Phone conference call, and built-in VOIP system. Both are bi-directional. You can use one or the other, but they are not bridged at this point. Overview of voice communications: http://vyew.com/s/help/basics/communicating/1542/communication-overvie/

I tried the export/pdf function and it is unreadable. It exports great but the pdf is unreadable. Also, in the help files it tells you that print has been moved to either the insert or edit tabs. It took me a while to find it in the menu tab.

    This customer’s needs list:
***I want to be able to record sessions.
*I want to be able to upload recorded vyew sessions to Youtube
**I want to be able to load URL’s and videos from my pc and those from Youtube, Ted, .Vimeo, etc.
***I want to record Web Tours.
*********I want it all, free, perfect and now:)

I would love to participate in the beta testing of 4.0, but would hate to give up the dynamic button to do so. I suppose I could Jing record my vyew sessions, but that seems silly. I loose sleep over using technology in the classroom. I teach new product development and frequently ask my 20-30 year old international students (15 or 20) per class to participate with experiments with integrating technology into the classroom. I have no fear of asking my students to try out new technologies.

How about using a google form to collect customer needs, rate and rank them?
How about you send me a survey/poll of what you want to know, and I have my students of new product development respond?
How about we skype you into my classroom? After some prep.

Let me know how I might help
