Setting User Roles/Permissions
In Vyew, people you invite/share your VyewBooks with enter the VyewBook as different user roles based on what you want to allow them to do. Different roles have different capabilities. For example, Viewers can watch the presentation and chat, but cannot draw. Collaborators can draw, annotate, upload content but cannot modify or delete other peoples content.
Description of each role
Owners (aka “Creator”)
There is only one owner per VyewBook, they can do everything including set the rights of other users.
Moderator
A moderator is like an owner, except they cannot change the VyewBook settings of the book, such as, the Access Control settings of a VyewBook. They can also edit/delete other peoples drawings and content, which a collaborator cannot do.
Collaborator
A collaborator can draw, edit, and delete their own content only. They cannot delete pages. They can also set the Sync Mode of a VyewBook. They cannot change the permissions of other users like a Moderator can.
Reviewer
A Reviewer is a special case user that only be set when inviting someone. If someone is set as a Reviewer, they can only markup a VyewBook and delete their own drawings/comments but cannot import content, delete pages, or delete other peoples content. The difference between a Reviewer and Collaborator is a Collaborator can import content such as images, docs, pdfs, etc.
Viewer
A Viewer can only see a VyewBook and can draw nothing. Whether a Viewer can navigate pages depends on the Sync Mode.
- When SYNC Mode is ON – Viewers cannot navigate pages at all. They are bound to follow you around from page to page.
- When SYNC Mode is OFF - Viewers CAN navigate pages wherever you want.
Why is it like this?
When you are giving a presentation, we expect you to have SYNC Mode ON, so that everyone will follow you from page to page.
When you are using Vyew for reviewing of a document or some other type of “asynchronous” activity in which viewers may be in your VyewBook without you present, then it is ideal that they should be able to browse your VyewBook as they wish. To allow this, turn SYNC Mode OFF.
Differing Vyew interfaces
Note that since each role differs in functions, their Vyew interface will be modified to not include certain buttons and menus that they are not allowed to use. For example, a Viewer will not see a “Book” or “Edit” menu.

Viewers will not see these buttons.

The Userlist
In the userlist pod (upper right corner of the VyewBook), click on their name to change their permission status.
Are users distracting the meeting?
If you have a large meeting, where users might be inclined to distract the meeting by drawing or playing with other features, it is recommended that you demote everyone to a Viewer. You can demote everyone at once with the Userlist Menu (the tool icon in lower right).
The viewer role, can only watch and chat. Also viewer’s do not broadcast their mouse cursor to the meeting, like collaborators, moderators and owners do. This will help minimize distractions during the meeting.
