Using my own conference call number in Vyew
You do not have to use Vyew’s conference call number. If you find your own conference calling service, you can insert that number and access code into your Vyew Room and invitations.
How to update the conference call number to your own number/access code
- Log into one of your Vyew Rooms
- Main Menu > Account Settings
- You will see “Conference Call: YES EDIT” …. Click EDIT.
- Type your new number and “access code” into the field.
How to reset the conference call number to the Vyew default number
This is Vyew’s conference call number: 218-862-6114
Can users outside of the US dial in to the conference call?
Anyone outside of the United States can call into the conference call number. Please note, however, that standard long distance charges will apply. Another thing to try is using Skype to make international calls into the U.S. conference call number.
Vyew’s FREE Conference Call Service
It’s a great way to bring your collaborators and participants together via telephone. Moderators have access to mute controls when handling large groups (see Advanced Features).
- Vyew Teleconference Number: (218) 862-6114
- The access code/extension is found in your Vyew Room.
Getting Your Access Code
Click on Conference Call for Free link at the bottom of the Chat Pod, near the bottom right corner of Vyew. This will display the call-in number and extension (or “access code”) for everyone in that room.

An Alternative to Conference Calling
Up to 4 people can simultaneously use Vyew’s VOIP Push To Talk feature.
Starting a Teleconference
- Dial the conference number
- Input your extention (access code), then # (pound). Note that moderators should dial * (star) before entering their access code to give them access to the Advanced Features.
You will hear music if no one else is in the room. You will hear a tone when someone enters the room.
Advanced Features
For Moderators Only – Moderators must dial * before they enter the access code to access the call options.
- Muting Everyone Except Moderators
Dialing *7 will switch between these modes:- Conversation Mode (default) = Everyone can speak
- Q/A Mode = Everyone is muted, except call organizer (anyone can unmute themselves with *6)
- Presentation Mode = Only the call organizer(s) can speak.
- Complete Call Options List
*0 = Exit private call
*1 = Enter private call (You need to know the other persons private caller code)
*2 = Get my private caller code
*4 = Help menu
*5 = Lock/Unlock conference
*6 = Mute/unmute yourself
*7 = Cycle between call modes (Conversation/QA/Presentation) - Using the conference call MUTE feature with Vyew handraising
If you have over 10 people in a room and you are giving a presentation, it could get chaotic on the phone conference. This is the recommended way to manage a lot of users.:- Use *7 Presentation Mode in the phone conference so that only moderators can speak
- Tell your users to raise their hand in Vyew if they have a question or would like to speak
- Give them the option of chatting their question. If you would like them to speak, dial *7 to change to Conversation Mode
- After they have spoken, change back to Presentation Mode with *7.
Communication Methods – Overview
If the communications side bar is minimized, click anywhere on it to open.
Four Methods of Communication
Webcam – Up to 4 users can simultaneously broadcast their webcam image to everyone in the room.
Built-in VoIP (Voice over IP) – Up to 4 users can simultaneously broadcast their headset mic to speak and listen to each other.
Conference Call – Each user can dial into the free conference call phone number; regular long-distance charges may apply.
Chat – Chat with everyone in your meeting, or initiate private chats with individual attendees.
Pros and Cons of Each Method
Webcam
- Pros: Easier and faster if users have their webcam options set. Ideal if a small number of people are giving a presentation to a large number of people.
- Cons: Only 4 users can broadcast simultaneously, so if more people want to webcam, they have to wait their turn. Mac OSX can sometimes be finicky about webcam setup.
- Don’t use the webcam if some of your users have slow internet.
Built-in VoIP
- Pros: Easier and faster if users have their headset mic and sound options set. Good for users outside of the U.S. who cannot call into the conference call. Ideal if a small number of people are giving a presentation to a large number of people (the audience chat their questions and comments, while presenters use VoIP).
- Cons: If one of the users only has speakers, or a loud headset, or a faulty sound configuration, it may cause an echo. Only 4 users can talk simultaneously, so if more people want to talk, they have to wait their turn.
- Don’t use VoIP if:
- Some of your users have slow internet.
- You need more than 4 people to talk simultaneously during a meeting.
- Any of the users who want to talk do not have a headset mic.
Conference Calling
- Pros: Supports 100 callers simultaneously, or some can be muted. You don’t have to worry about headsets and sound configurations for all users.
- Cons: Users need to have access to a phone be able to call long distance. Long distance charges may apply.
Chat
- Pros: Easy, requires no setup. Has the ability to address all users at once, or individual users privately.
- Cons: Not as immediate as VoIP or the Conference Call, especially with users who cannot type fast.
Using Skype
Skype is a free online Voice over IP (VoIP) system which you can use to call anyone in the world. The only downside is that each person needs to install the Skype software. Vyew does not directly integrate with Skype, but you can use Skype in conjunction with Vyew by initiating a Skype and Vyew meeting at the same time.
