Doesn’t work w/proxy server

I tried running the vyew demo test as a guest and cannot get a connection.

During the connection it states “trying low ports...” and then times out with the message:

Connection Closed.
Details: Connection timed out, connection to vyew failed.

I suspect the failure is because of the proxy servers or firewall at my company.  Are you using anything else besides port 80?

The above failure is not necessarily Mac related.  It happens under any of the following:

1) Intel MacBook Pro, Mac 10.4.7, Safari 2.0.4
2) Intel MacBook Pro, Mac 10.4.7, Firefox 1.5.0.4
3) Dell PC, Windows XP Pro SP2, Firefox 1.5

Is there a work around?

Actually, we do use other ports for our real-time connection and voip/video.  But if those ports are blocked we go over we try 2 other normally opened ports; the high ports 8000+ and then the low port 80.  If both ports are blocked, then there is no way (at least right now) to get around the firewall.

The normal ports we use, which should work, or else be opened manually in your firewall settings are:

Ports: 9100, 9102 and 1935 to IP Addresses: 209.21.91.131 through .138

Hi,

All connection failures generate a log on the server.
I think I may have had something misconfigured, if you could try one more time, I think it may work now.

We have limited Desktop Sharing support, however I believe it does not work correctly on Macs. To use it, have the presenter (the PC you want to share) click New Page->Real Time Desktop Sharing

As for Safari, I’m not sure what could be failing. In theory, it should be completely cross-platform, and not depend on the browser. (excluding anything which relies on java, which is only the screen capture & desktop sharing).

It could possibly take up to 45 seconds in order to try all of the connection methods, are you letting it wait this long before closing the window?

Also, so I can figure out which connection is you, could you create a new vyew account, and only use it on the safari browser which fails? And then let me know what email address you used to log into vyew with (if you don’t want to post it publicly, just go ahead and email it to me, at: davidr at simulat dot com)—this is because currently, forum accounts are not linked with Vyew accounts.

All I can think of is that it is somehow a problem with safari + the method we use to bypass web proxies. A note: If you do connect successfully, our server doesn’t keep a detailed log (otherwise we would end up with way too much data). So if you do manage to get in a meeting (after the 10 minute delay), could you report a bug, under Main Menu -> Help -> Report a Bug.

For desktop-sharing, first of all, I believe it doesn’t work on mac (depends on some java stuff).

But if you are testing on windows—it should at least load, it sounds like another issue with your proxy blocking the desktop sharing component from being downloaded (though I’m not sure why).

NOTICE—NEED TO UPDATE YOUR FIREWALL SETTINGS

We have added new servers in other locations, so anyone who modified their firewall settings to allow Vyew to work needs to change their settings so that outgoing requests ANY IP ADDRESSES over ports 9100,9102,1935 are let through.
