Whenever i load desktop sharing, regardless of what browser i use, it always gives me an error loading java. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to the latest version, however it still doesn’t work. I cannot think of anything else to do, i am currently using firefox, but the error persists regardless if i use internet explorer

also if it helps i am using vista

I am experiencing the same problem when logged into my office server. However, when I use it at home logged into my private service provider it is no issues. Same with using the camera. I hope someone can throw some light on this because I find Vyew excellent but this problem is very frustrating.
cheers

I have already sent an email to tech support regarding a similar matter but no reply to date. I suggest you do the same and hopefully get this sorted out

Sorry I dont know how we missed this thread.
So you’re sure you have the latest java? Please check your java/flash versions and connection info at this test site: http://www.vyew.com/browsertest.

With java, sometimes its possible that 2 versions are installed on top of each other which interfere. Check this directory: C:\Program Files\Java

If you see multiple directories of differing major versions, try this:
1. uninstall java again.
2. Delete everything in C:\Program Files\Java
3. re-install

I know this annoying, but what can I say, Java is annoying but the only technology we have available with the features we need for Vyew.

Have you tried various browsers? Try Firefox, and IE?

Thanks for working with me on this, Id really like to know the reason for this failure.

Can you try Screen Capture as well. For both desktop sharing and screen capture,
you will get a small popup that hovers over the Vyew browser window. For desktop share, this window is located in the upper center of the screen.

There could be 2 problems here:
1. the Vyew java applet doesnt load at all
2. the Java applet isnt communicating with the Vyew browser

IF its #1 (no loading of any type of popup), then I can try isolating out the applet loading part into another html page for you to try.

the screen capture feature works and uploads my image to the vyew session without any problems. I am using the screenshot button next to the import button, if i go to the desktop sharing tab and attempt to use the screen capture on the popup toolbar next to “start sharing” it works and lets me crop but doesn’t upload.

Thanks for addressing this Tim. I have the same problem. Our company IT guru helped me get the camera and VOIP going when connected to the office server by opening some ports. However, desktop function is not working. I can take screenshots okay. I have re-installed Java but no success.

So screen capture by itself works for both of you, but not desktop sharing.
Can you guys try this. Open the Java Error Console, clear all messages, then try desktop sharing, see if any errors popup and send them to me at support [at] vyew.com.

To get to Java Error Console: In FireFox and IE: TOOLS > JAVA CONSOLE .

@takeda: Are you saying that you are trying to desktop share AND screen capture at the same time?
Does desktop sharing work by itself?

This is the strangest thing. Both desksharing and screencap use similar java applets. I think the problem may lie in the communication back with the Vyew flash app.
I am in contact with the engineers to add more error checking inside the desktop sharing applet so that it is easier to narrow down the problem…

In the mean time theres not much we can do, and Im embaressed to say that.
Takeda is using Vista… there may be some type of firewall security built in to the OS? Vista is wierd like that.
Ken, are you on vista also?

I’m not sure if it might be something with the user account control or something. I am using ESET NOD32 for firewall and thats all the user installed security i have put on there. I have held a conference with a friend of mine who uses XP and has been able to get the desktop sharing working properly. Have there been any problems with vista before like this?

Ha ha . Vista? problems? jk. We have seen a handful of problems with vista and flash in the past which are all fixed now thanks to Adobe.

Now… vista and java, your errors are new to us, but they always usually come back to some type of firewall blocking.

If you say you have a firewally on your machine, thats probably the problem right there, because Java communicates with Vyew Flash app over a local socket connection which firewalls are known to block. Try disabling your firewall completely for a few minutes to test Vyew. After that we can try to figure out how to only allow Vyew socket while keeping the firewall on.

Thanks for working with us on this, Id like to post documentation on your experience so out other users can learn from it.
