I am new to Vyew and it is awesome but has this desktop sharing ever been fixed? I can’t seem to get it working either.

Thanks, Chuck

I was experiencing the same issue as originally posted, even after updating to the latest java version.  In my case, I’m using IE8.  I tried it using Compatibility View and now can share my desktop.  It’s something you could try…

Thank you Kevin, I tried what you suggested and used compatibility view on both the host and the guests and it didn’t work. I appreciate your help though!

Sorry we have not officially started testing IE8 yet. So you have the latest Java 1.6 (http://www.vyew.com/browsertest) ?
Firefox is recommended, it should work FF.

Has a solution ever been found for desktop sharing not working? Less than a month ago I was able to use this feature and now it is not working. I have tried all the steps to correct it that were mentioned earlier in the forum but with no success.

I am evaluating free web conferencing tools for my organization. All features appear to be working except desktop sharing.

I have tried uninstalling all instances of java, removed their directories and reinstalled the latest java. I have used IE8, Mozilla FF 3.6 and Safari - none of these browsers solved the issue. I have made sure that java and javascripts were enabled in each browser. I installed the latest Flash software. I ran tests to confirm the latest java and flash existed and its connectivity. I telnet’d to the server on the ports that the vyew server is listening on and I get a response from the server. I even temporarily disabled the FW. But nothing I’ve tried corrected the problem.

I am running Vista x64 but something tells me that Vista 32bit clients would have the same problem.

Is this issue being actively addressed or is there a solution to this problem? If a solution exists, please provide it. But if the desktop sharing feature is not supported on Vista clients, this should be stated in vyew’s system requirements.

Looks like you need to put a System Requirements section on your website for people to read BEFORE they try Vyew.  From the forum responses it looks like Vyew users need to have the very latest versions of Java and Flash, but should NOT use any version of Windows beyond 32 bit XP, and all firewalls should be disabled to guarantee that key features like desktop sharing are usable.  Don’t get me wrong - I like the concept of what you are trying to do, but I need a product that is easy to set up and use by non-techies and is not in the buggy beta stage.  We were using Dim Dim with great success until they were bought out and it was pulled from the market.
