Folks,
We’re using Vyew as a “Virtual Office”, an obvious use obviously.
We have 35 people spread across the globe, US, India, Switzerland, Spain, Canada, etc.... There is one office where more than two people show up. The rest are individuals working collectively, but separately, on company initiatives.
We leave a Vyewbook open and available with the entire company invited to it. We call it “The Office”. We ask everyone to come into “The Office” every day. When they are working at their desks we ask that they are in “The Office”.
We have also created “Rooms” (vyewbooks) titled R&D;, Exec Team, HR, WaterCooler, etc..... We ask that the respective employees monitor these rooms for their respective responsibilities (Watercooler is for telling jokes).
What we’d like to see are some improvements to that regard.
We’d like an “always on top” status window or dockable sidebar that indicates, by means of an ordered list of names, who is in “The Office” currently, who was in the office earlier but has left, and who has indicated they will be in the office later at “X pm EST”. This can also be extended to include other rooms, such as Exec Team, but each room should be ordered so that the highest priority room stays at the top of the list.
We’d like to have a Quick “jump” into a defined “Room”, that is, if someone wants to jump quickly to the “Watercooler” they can simply click the appropriate point on the sidebar and that “Room” opens up for them.
We’d like to be able to have the default view be full-screen for these “Jumps”.
We’d like to be able to “Ping” or “Fetch” someone to bring them into the Room. This can be email, twitter, SMS texting, an Alert tone and flashing signal on the Sidebar of that person, or some other means but it must contain all the information they need to quickly join such as URL and Conference call number and code.
We’d like Outlook integration so that a thread of emails can be assigned to a Room (vyewbook), so that a “Schedule a Meeting” also created the appropriate Vyewbook or an existing vyewbook could be selected to be included in the calendar invite and provide the URL and Conference call number in the invite.
We’d like a grouping of Contacts in each users Vyew so they can organize their contacts into teams that can be quickly invited, wholesale, into an ad-hoc meeting or allow meeting organizers to easily manage meetings when times change or agendas change close to the time of the meeting. Sending an update of last minute changes through Vyew to 30 of 35 individuals is particularly tough.
I should leave the rest to later posts, the gist of the requests are to support “Virtual Offices”, to bring Vyew to the point where a Virtual Office in Vyew is as close to the real thing as possible. Especially as we are already seeing people act differently, better in terms of their comfort in a Virtual Office, and we’ve only been doing this for a short time.
