What’s New in Vyew
April 2008 (Version 3.0)
Version 3.0 constitutes all the major additions in the last 3 months, including:- New Desktop Sharing Engine (see details below)
- Voicemail Notes
- Sidebar discussion area for comments
- Edit images inline
- Push-To-Talk VOIP and Webcam
- Background Importing
- New Desktop Sharing Engine — The Java based desktop sharing engine is more stable a little bit faster than the last version. When desktop sharing starts, a control bar will popup, so you can start/stop sharing without having to go back to the Vyew browser. In the past, we tried to minimize the browser during the Desktop Sharing startup, but this created problems within certain browsers. Now, you must minimize the browser yourself.
- Desktop Sharing Zoom Mode — Desktop sharing can now be seen in a 100% Zoom mode, which auto-scrolls and crops the area of where the presenters mouse is. This makes viewing a presentation at 100% much easier. Try it out!
March 2008
This month we have mainly been working on small changes here and there. One of the things that was long overdue was multi-select. I know what you're thinking -- "it's about time!" Use your mouse to hold shift and click on various objects to move, copy and paste them.- Comment Tool Upgrades — The comment tool is almost a full-featured discussion area. Comments can be snapped to a sidebar so they are all visible in one place. Users can then reply in a nested format directly to specific comments like a discussion forum.
- Sync/Unsync Changes — Previously, Syncing a VyewBook sync'd navigation, scrolling and zooming. We found that this wasnt the best option because users of different screen sizes would change eachother's zoom ratios. So now, Syncing only sync's navigation, and there is a separate option in the Sync Menu for syncing scrolling and zooming.
- Edit your images inline — We are pleased to introduce an integration with Picnik, an online image editing system. You can now crop, change contrast or add a dozen effects to your images, instantly. How? In your VyewBook, click on an image that you have uploaded. In the context-sensitive menu next to the image, click "more" to expand the menu. You will now see a blue/green boxy icon (The picnik logo). Click it to edit the image. When you are done editing, click "SAVE TO VYEW" to complete.
- Push-To-Talk (VOIP) Upgrade: Pass the mic to a user — Previously, your users had to be collaborators to use the VOIP Push-To-Talk system. Now you can pass the mic to anyone, including viewers. To do so... click their name in the userlist and you will see the option in the menu.
- TextPad upgrade — The Textpad works better now - we got rid of the scrolling so it would work more like the TextTool. There is still a scrolling option, but it is in the options menu.
- Multi-select — Click on an object, then hold shift, then click on more objects to move, copy and delete all at once. Yes, quite an innovation that we would like to patent... but as it turns out, its been around for quite some time =)
February 2008
- Voicemail Notes — Record 30 second voicemails directly into Comment Sticky Notes
- Better Shape/Text Size Selector — More precise measurements for drawing shapes and placing text
- Edit Drawn Shapes — This should've been done a long time ago, but we finally got it in. Edit the color and shape properties of objects or text after they're placed by clicking on them, then changing the thickness/size or color.
- Page change notification — In the Page Navigator drop down you will notice astericks before the name. This means that page has been modified or edited since your last visit.
- Background Importing — Import documents in the background as your work
January 2008
- Duplicate Page Feature - A new icon next to the Page Navigator allows you to copy a whole page of a VyewBook.
- Improved Vyew Meeting load time - Users reported that large books (over 40 pages) began loading slowly. This problem has been fixed. Books with 100 pages now load as fast as books with two pages.
- Improved Vyew Meeting limit - It is now possible to host 150 users without lag times.
